Edgemont JR Disc Golf Challenge

~EDGEMONT~
$25 Registration Fee + cost of CDGC Membership if the child or family does not have one. Consider that a Junior Membership is in effect until the member is 18 years old!

ABOUT the Challenge!

The 2021 Edgemont Junior Disc Golf Challenge is the Calgary Disc Golf Club’s (CDGC) second event for the JUNIOR disc golf season for under age 18 youth. It’s about fun and growing the disc golf community. Those new to the sport are welcome too!

Special thanks to the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) Canada for providing a grant to help make this event possible and to DiscFlow for arranging a discounted disc order of player and prize discs just in time!

The location is the Edgemont Disc Golf Course. We will use the existing 11 hole locations, but with portable baskets. Two rounds will be played. After the two rounds there will be an optional area to participate in a putting contest, check your speed/distance and get some tips!

Player cards will be setup to meet or exceed current Alberta Health Services COVID-19 restrictions. We will endeavor to pair up friends if possible. Cards will likely range from 2-4 players. Experienced CDGC players will be on site to cheer kids on and assist with play (in a socially distanced fashion).

Bring at least one disc! If you are a beginner, any conventional 'frisbee' style disc will do. Typically as people get better they specialize into disc golf discs. So don't worry!

What is the challenge at Edgemont? Wind, hills/slopes and short distances - birdie potential!

NEW PLAYERS:

More About Format

Totally new to disc golf or still learning? Players will be sorted into Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced categories. Maximum score on any hole will be double par; official results will be adjusted accordingly.

More details about start times and how to report in your child's score will be emailed out in the days leading up to the Challenge. We do encourage you to look up the Edgemont course on UDisc and install the Udisc app on your mobile device!

CDGC Membership

Registration requires a CDGC Junior membership purchase or an existing CDGC Junior membership. A Family membership is also acceptable. A CDGC membership will provides access to benefits including access to future tournaments and events hosted throughout the year! A membership also provides funds to help develop junior initiatives, maintain local courses and develop new courses throughout the city. A Junior Membership is in effect until the member is 18 years old!

A draw will be done with all first place winners for a special Father's Day themed gift box filled with large soap bars from Bowness Soapworks (which might just have a slight beer smell to them) and Chimmi's Hot Sauz - 6 sauces! We also have some Chimmi's mini disc markers and towels!

Registration

When registering, you will be asked to list 1-2 of your child’s friends also participating in the event. You will also be asked to indicate your child's skill level.

The Parent or Legal Guardian registering the child must agree to the RELEASE OF LIABILITY, ASSUMPTION OF RISK AND MEDIA RELEASE AGREEMENT in order for the child to participate in the Challenge. This is done through the Registration form.

Important: When registering your child, enter the child's name first. Later in the form is a spot to enter your name as the parent or legal guardian. Watch out for auto-fill as it likely will replace the child's name with yours.

Player Safety

Please go over safety with your child, as with every sport! Issues include, but are not limited to: getting hit by a disc, slips, trips, falls, the effect of pre-existing medical conditions and inclement weather.

Please also see the ‘Disc Golfer’s Code’ - www.pdga.com/code

At this difficult time, we are working diligently to keep your safety and the safety of the community as a whole a top priority. Please follow the rules outlined as strictly as possible to help this a success! Be advised that all social distancing measures as outlined on the Government of Alberta website must be adhered to at all times. See below for details:
https://www.alberta.ca/enhanced-public-health-measures.aspx

We intend on enforcing these rules with volunteers and participants to keep everyone safe and happy! Please be aware that we may also be subject to cancellation due to COVID-19 and refunds will be processed accordingly.

What’s Next

Watch for a few emails. Tee time / hole start details will be assigned right up close to the tournament.

We hope to keep the event safe, inclusive and fun for all those involved! Thank you for your part in making this happen. See you out there on the course!
